STATEMENT
No object stands alone or original; every object is preceded – in either our perception or creation. Every image I create is informed by the overlap and interference of culture, experience, history, and perspective. I am inspired by the collision of competing visions and ideas and portray that clash.
Often I will begin a work with heavily layered and collaged materials. With that basis, image making is a process of seeing, discovery and discernment, opposed to a predetermined path to composition and subject/form. Via this method, I rarely work with isolated figures, instead exploring the result of competing and overlapping forms, narratives and meanings. The result is an art object that is often unpredictable, schizophrenic, yet beautiful.
